Staff

One of the foundations of having a great preschool is the teachers and staff.  They are the ones who create a loving environment to nurture your child’s growth.  Our teachers are committed to being their best for your children.   We provide ongoing education for our teachers so they are current on best practices in early childhood education so they can provide the best possible experiences for your child.

Joy Marker

Lead Teacher, Beginner class

Ms Joy, her husband and 2 boys moved to Lawrence from North Carolina in 2013.  After a combined seventeen year career in Finance and Human Resources, Ms Joy turned her passion and years of volunteer work with young children into a career in early childhood.  Returning to Green Pastures as the Beginner Lead Teacher, Ms Joy brings with her a desire to help set the foundation for each child and their love of learning. Her classroom is full of creative, fun and exploratory lesson plans.  She meets each child where they are individually to help them build their confidence and successful learning.

Fernanda Raney

Lead Teacher, Pre-K Class

This is Ms. Fernanda’s second year with us at Green Pastures Preschool.  She came to our preschool with experience working with kids in the public schools and has transitioned into an excellent Pre-K teacher.  She and her husband have two of their own children, both having been Green Pasture Preschool students.  Her dedication to helping each student is evident when you visit her classroom. Her smile and warmth make her a favorite among students as well as their families.

Jessica Welchhans

Director, Music Teacher

Ms. Jessica and her family moved to Lawrence in March of 2012.  Jessica and her husband, Chris, have two children, the youngest a graduate of Green Pastures Preschool. She is the Administrator and Director of GPP.  She has a passion for music, and truly enjoys teaching our music class to our preschoolers.  Jessica has always been in education, having taught secondary math before having her own children.  She enjoys teaching children of all levels and continues to learn the best ways to inspire our youngest students.

Dana Shirley

Director’s Assistant, Cooking Teacher

Ms. Dana does it all! She helps in the classroom, is our dedicated cooking and nutrition class teacher and is always available to help a friend in need. She is detailed, organized and does it all with a smile! (We don’t know what we did before we had Ms. Dana to help.) She and her family currently reside in Lawrence and are members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She has a business background, but more importantly she is a parent to two recent preschool graduates. She also serves on the Preschool Board of Directors. Dana knows our program inside and out and continues to be a great resource to all.
